Winter Solstice Celebration Expressing Gratitude and Setting New Goals for the New Year

22nd of DECEMBER 2019. Happy Solstice!

The Term ‘Solstice’ Derives from the Latin Word ‘Solstitium’, meaning ‘Sun Standing Still’. On this day the Sun Seems to Stand Still at the Tropic of Capricorn and then Reverses its Direction as it Reaches its Southern most Position as seen from the Earth.

Solstice Happens When the Sun Moves at South toward the Tropic of Capricorn and the Shortest Day of the Solar Year Arrives in the Northern Hemisphere. We use to call these Days Winter Solstice.

Officially, this Year, December Solstice in Coordinated Universal Time is on Sunday 22nd of December 2019, 4.19 UTC.

The Day after the Winter Solstice will Be the Beginning of Lengthening Days, Leading up to the Summer Solstice in June.

The Solstice is an Astronomical Event Caused by the Tilt of the Earth on its Axis and its Orbit around the Sun.

The Result is the Shortest Day and Longest Night. Winter Solstice is the Equivalent of the Solar New Year.
