Well-being (from Well-Being = “Feeling Good” or “Existing Well”) is a State that Involves all Aspects of the Human Being.
The word “Wellness”, whose Meaning in the Past Essentially Coincided with Physical Health, Today has Gradually Taken on an ever Wider Meaning, Coming to Involve all Aspects of Being’s Reality: Physical, Emotional, Mental/Intellectual, Social, Environmental, Occupational, and Spiritual.
Just to Think about the Word “Wellness” makes us Feel Good and Makes our Images and Sensations Feel Positiveness: Relaxation, Tranquillity, Care, Vitality, Health, Balance, Fulfilment, Joy, Affectivity, Peace, Inner Silence, etc.
Even More the Word “Wellness” is Assuming Subjective Meanings with Respect to which Fixed Criteria cannot be Fixed a Priori, nor can the Individual’s Feelings and Desires Be subordinated.
Being Aware about our own Definition of Wellness is an Additional Advantage to Reach and Maintain a Good Health and to Set Meaningful Wellness Goals.
We are Moving Toward the Concept of Integral and Holistic Well-Being that Involves not only Psycho-Physical Aspects, but also Mental, Social and Spiritual, where more than the “Objective” Duality between Health or Illness, it is Measured by a Subjective State and a Personal Perception of Life becomes Fundamental. Thanks to this Wider Vision it is Possible to Increase Well-Being even in People Suffering from Diseases and therefore not Completely in Health, Considering the Chance of a Better Quality of Life in many Areas of It.
Nowadays Society Recognizes that Good Health is a Result of not only of Quality Medical Care, but also Taking Daily Steps to Prevent Diseases and Reinforce the Well-Being Condition.
Nowadays Wellness is becoming a Lifestyle.
We can Create a Culture of Wellness at Home, at School, at the Workplace and in our Cities, creating Opportunities to Promote Healthy Habits and designing healthy and Safe Habitats.
Workplaces are becoming Leaders in this Shift by Creating a Culture of Wellness and that Helps Employees to Learn Healthy Habits and Stick with Them over Time.
In Fact, The most Innovative and Successful Organizations in the Future will be those who Create a Culture of Wellness and Move Totally Upstream by Creating, Introducing and Scheduling Programs and Interventions Focused on Features such as Resilience, Confidence during Career Changes, Learning, Stress Reduction and Shaping many Good Habits as Eat Well and be Active on a daily basis.
To Create a Culture of Wellness Means to Encourage and to Promote the Well-Being of People in our Social Environment and Communities. It also Means to Find and to Implement Ways to be Healthier and to Help Others to create Healthy Habits in both their Personal and Professional lives. Everybody can Contribute.
Quoting Tal Ben-Shahar, Founder of the Happiness Studies Academy: “A Happy Life is Rarely Dictated by some Extraordinary Change, rather it Takes Shape Experience after Experience. We Live a Healthy and Happy Life when we get Pleasure and Meaning, when we spend Time with the People we Love, when we Learn something New, or we Commit with Ourselves to a Project”.
