Andrew Carnegie arrived in the US in 1848 very poor, but since 1901, he was the head of a steel empire and the richest man in the world.
At the height of his greatness, he was approached by a young journalist named Napoleon Hill who was interested in telling the stories about realized and successful people.
Carnegie saw a special capability in Hill, and in 1908 he decided that Hill would have documented all of the strategies that made him a successful and legendary businessman and philanthropist.
Together, they wrote the history, building pathways for all the pioneer the self-help genre, and hill’s 1937 book “Think and Grow Rich” has gone on to become one of the top-selling books of all time.
When Napoleon Hill began his career writing about success of other people, Carnegie gave him his “10 Rules of Success” who became the basis for further Hill’s work.
Here’s a summary of the 10 Rules, which appear in the collection “The Science of Success” by Napoleon Hill:
1. Definite a Purpose
Always set clear Goals and create a plan of action and start working toward it immediately. Create objectives that go beyond mere direct personal happiness or happiness of cared people, rather prefer to and set goals that help to solve real problems for yourself and others according with that main purpose.
2. Create a “Master-Mind Alliance”
Contact and cooperate with people “who have what you haven’t yet” Hill says. Be inspired and always develop the ability to find to inspire at best other people.
3. Go the Extra Mile
Doing more than you have to do is the only thing that justifies raises and effective growth, and puts people under a defined obligation to you, creating a balance in any relationship according the Law of Reciprocity.
4. Practice “Applied Faith”
Believe in yourself and your purpose so fully that you act with complete confidence and you develop a proper competence.
5. Have Personal Initiative
Do what you have to without being told: be inspired by recognizing an higher potential of actualization in every situation.
6. Indulge your Imagination
Dare to think beyond what’s already been done and nourish and develop your creativity.
7. Exert Enthusiasm
A positive attitude sets you up for success and wins the respect of others. Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful motivational tools in an entrepreneur’s arsenal, and no success will occur without it.
8. Think Accurately
In Hill’s words, accurate thinking is “the ability to separate facts from fiction and to use those pertinent to your own concerns or problems: “When the necessary facts are not available, accurate inductive reasoning or hypothetical thinking is required to fill the gap” says Hill.
9. Concentrate your Effort
Be always focused on the more important task you are currently facing. Don’t be distracted by other arguments while you are focused on one: Go straight and take notes of what you can do to successively direct the focus on other developments.
10. Profit from Adversity
Remember that “There is always an equivalent benefit for every setback,” Hill writes, So always think positive and develop positive strategic thinking.
